Well I started Sunday February 21st, worked from dawn till well past dark and worked both last Saturday and Sunday but the sugarhouse is done, the evaporator is ready and I have 40 of 80 buckets in. It is 12x18. I battled 3 heavy snow storms, heavy rains and a location about 500ft from the hosue with no power.
Forgive the pictures they're from a cell phone. Special thanks to a friend and his son for helping me for 3 days.
Sunday Feb 21st, broke ground and laid 12" of sure-pak gravel
Built the walls and roof trusses in the garage out of rough cut lumber. Carried them out to the sugarhouse site with the tractor and forks.
Sided about 1/2 of the shack with rough cut channel rustic vertical siding.
Monday the 22nd. 1/2 day put up the strapping and got the roof on,about 2 hours before a huge snowstorm hit!
Saturday Feb 27th. Heavy rains turned the sure-pak into sure soup. Mixed in 4 bags of quickset concrete, covered with PT plywood where it was still a little soft. Covered the plywood with partition block to build a stable base for the evaporator. Finished almost all of the siding.
Sunday the 28th. Set the evaporator with the tractor, fire bricked it, built the draw offs for the pan, built the doors for the shack installed the trash can roof jack, and the smoke stack. Test boiled with water at about 7:30 at night.
