I have used the flat rope and small strips of blanket and I have the ripping problem because of baked on syrup from sap that will drip down and burn. It also gets brittle from the high heat. I just live with replacing every year. Im wondering if soaking it with clean water before removimg would help but that would take planning.

This stuff is the best and will last for several years and works great. Not a problem with sticking to pans or tearing. Very tough and durable and Maple Guys usually ship same day or next day:

thanks guys i checked out gasket from the mapleguys I think it would work better
For this year I might try to put a very thin coat of anti-seize compound before I boil. I'll see how that works.
