Hi everyone,

I'm new here and have access to some used equipment (father in law), and would like to know what it will be able to produce and how much wood I will have to put up by next spring.

Equipment 1980's era Leader arch and pans 2'-6" x 8' with a flat finish pan 7 1/2" deep and a 9" deep flue pan. two SS 200 gal storage tanks and misc buckets and taps.

I'd like to set up a gravity feed tubing system, how big can I plan for?
How much wood do I need to get stockpiled, split, stacked.

Thanks,
Garett

did you say a 2'x8' evap? if so it will prob. boil about 30-45 gal/hr.If its a 2x6 its about 25-35gal/hr. and the wood will depend on how many taps you put out and taps depend on how much time you want to spend boiling say you want to boil about 2-3 times per week for 6hr and your evap will do 35 gal an hour. say 2 gal of sap per tap per day so 35x5hr. 1 hr for startup and shut down equals 175 gal per boil divided by 2 gal of sap per day is about 87 taps so you can figure out about how many taps you can handle with your time. i have a 2x6 arch and i put up about 2 full cord of wood i only have 80 taps and i have a flat pan evap. so its only about a 18-20gal/hr. rig but i dont use all my wood. depends on the type of wood also. if you are planning on slab wood figure twice as much because it goes fast. any more ques. let me know.

Figure 100 taps per cord give or take, 30" x 8' evaporator should do 50 gals / hr.

50 GPH without enhancements. Add a hood, preheater, forced draft, over fire high pressure air and you could get it up to 70-75 gal/hr.

Now you have me thinking....

Any plans on the site or basic ideas on how to get it working?

I was thinking of a 1"x1" mild steel frame under the Edge of the pans around the arch, would I need to get the air into the center line of the fire box or can the injection be from around the perimeter for the pan.

Again 30"x8' arch with 30"x 4' flat and 30" x 4' drop flue pans.

How much pressure do I need to produce or is injecting any air going to generate a secondary burn?

Thanks for the help

This has been discussed Alot under the AOF (Air over fire) thread. There is a link that gives you all the specs nescessary for AOF.
