I guess I'm gonna hafta break down and get myself a new tapping drill. I'm only getting around 75 tapholes per charge with the Black and Decker I'm using now. What should I be looking at for max holes per charge?

I probably get less than 75 of the 7/16" taps with one 18v battery on my dewalt, but more than 75 with the 5/16" taps

Thanks, Guys. Haynes, any idea what model your 18v Dewalt is? Is it nicad or lithium ion? Which is better, gonna last longer? Is it a direct relationship of battery voltage and longevity? In other words, is a 28v gonna last about half again longer than an 18v?

I just bought a 18v milwaukee lithium, i can drill between 125-150 5/16 on a single charge with a good bit, maybe more if i didnt use the high speed on the drill, what i like about the lithium ion batteries is you get full power till the end which is nice, and it also lighter. I dont know if home depot is still running the deal online but i got the drill and impact driver for 199.00.

I don't get many holes with my drills either but thats mostly due to them being cheap ones. I kept my new drill in the house all winter to see if it improves it's preformance.

I've been using an 18v ryobi for years and am very happy with its performance. By the way do you guys use high or low speed with a drill?

I had to get a new Lithium Ion Batery for my 18v ryobi. A bit expensive but worth every penny. did 250 on 1 charge could have done way more. I do high speed. get cleaner holes that way.

I did 175 with my Dewalt 18V NiCad. Sharp bit and freshly charged battery. As said earlier don't let the batteries ever freeze... been there... got the tee shirt... saps the life right out of em... no pun intended

I'm sure a dealer is the best place to go, but I have seen them online. Seems like Amazon had about the best prices when I was looking.

Milwakee v28 lith ion . I use them everyday in my construction business and tapping as well. One attraction is the meter built into the battery. This lets you know before you head out and as you go how your doing as far as a charge goes.

Glad you guys pointed out not to let a battery freeze. Never knew that and wondered why my batteries are puking this year.

Lance its the Nicad that when NEW and fully charged I get the best results. To day we were working in the shop and were drilling alot of holes and we were revolving 4 batteries in the 2 chargers and could never keep up. I get 2 new batteries every year right before sugar time. Now this time I got 2 new drills with batt and charger in the case for $200.00. .....................I have no Idea
