Now that I have finished my evaporator I have one thing left to do. Name it! What are some of the names that folks have given their babies??

This will be the second year with my rig and I still cant figure out a name. But what I did was send the ash pan door out and had a guy paint it with high temp paint then baked with my grandfathers name on it to remember him by and a way to salute and thank him even though he passed many years ago. After all it was he who started the maple madness in the family.

I am not allowed to say the name I call mine on here. It's a secret combination of four letter words that makes up it's special name.

My dad keeps putting BIG BERTHA on the front steam hood of ours with permanent marker. Good thing when it gets hot i can wash it right off. It's a battle of who will give up first i guess. (no offense to anyone with the name Bertha on traders, if so blame pa) Have to ask him if that was a past girlfriend that hes so persistent with calling it that???

we have a tendency to call ours "the suggestion box". when one is made, we open the arch door and deposit it...

geez. from another thread I found out that I have to where a costume(red flannel shirt) and probably have to get one of the hats with the rabbit ear flaps, some suspenders.

Now I need to name my arch...maybe "wood eater"...or "sexy bi..h" because all that stainless is real sexy. that seems apropriate!!

Cool! Who makes a good one these days? :D

Irene... named after my grandmother whom passed along a small inheritance to all grandchild when she died. That money was used to pay for most of the evaporator.

I use 2 homemade arches made from fuel oil tanks. We call the original "beast 1" and added the 2nd " beast 2" 2 years later, each with a 2.5'x4.5' pan. I'm in the planning stages to build "Super Beast" for 2011.

Between the RO, vacuum, evaporator, and press all running at once we call it "the Kursk".

LOL . . . didn't know we needed to name it. My wife suggested we call it DINGER, since we call our dog "dingerdog."

Rhino I haven't heard of something being named "Big Bertha" in a long time, brings back memories. We used to use a 2 1/2" drive air impact wrench @ work that was made in the 40's.It was so heavy we used to hang it off the crane while we were using it!, had 3' handles off each side!! It's name was "Big Bertha"

We call ours the "incinerator" first year I ran it i broke the door handle lever on the fire side. Grabbed a handle off an old electrical enclosure that had a pot metal base. That lasted about an hour before it melted and we had to prop the door shut with a hunk of steel the rest of the day. You can throw a beer can in it and its never seen again.

My evaporator is still new here so I don't know if it's a boy or girl.

How do I tell?

It's funny, but this kind of the way I felt when I watched "men's" figure skating.

It's most likely female. Gets hot and if you don't watch it properly it boils over. Your a brave man to watch figure skateing.

[QUOTE=BryanEx;99908]Cool! Who makes a good one these days? :D

That would be Mad Bomber. Think Beans sells one to. I have a nice Mad Bomber wool hat with rabbit ear flaps. When I go down to get the paper in the morning I cause more than a few accidents with the hat, my Johnson woolen jacket, and sorel boots from rubberneckers doing a double take. Definitely not what the natives here wear. They wouldn't be caught dead in that stuff.

In the shack I'm sitting here wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. How the heck can anyone wear anything heavy? It's way too hot in here!

He's braver for admitting on here to watching men's figure skating!

My 12 year old son came into the sugarhouse after I just revamped and added a few toys. He looked at the 10+ft. tall shiny beast with all the lines and hoses coming in and out, gauges, steam flying off it, and stack shaking away and decided it should called Apollo 15. Now he thinks I should put an American Flag and NASA sign on it. He also told his mom that I need to wear a helmet before flipping all the switches. Saps running a bit today so we should have a go for launch early tomorrow morning.

We fired ours up for the first real boil and my friends that were there named it Nebuchadnezzar's furnace. It was burning hot!

I'm thinking mine should be named Shahrazad. Beautiful when hot but spits like a camel from the flue pan.
