Good morning Bill,
Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law, my condolences.
Well that sap isn't slow over here, it was chugging right along yesterday afternoon on the hill.
Have fun boiling.

Hi Bill.....it's nice to see someone on here that's not running hundreds if not thousands of taps! I DO appreciate all the expertise of the "bigger" guys, but it's nice to see someone talk about the kind of #'s I can relate to!!
We've been able to gather a pretty good amount of sap from my biggest trees this year...we've processed a little over 80 gals of sap in 2 weekends from our 22 taps altogether for a total of 2 gals and 1 half pint of syrup. 7 of our taps haven't done squat...must be placement of the trees or something...but my 4ft diameter trees are awesome every year!! Got a line on 40-50 trees of good size for next year, but will definetly have to have at least a small evaporator to add those in! Kinda tough to do those #'s on a couple of turkey fryers!!!!! Good luck and keep sappin'!!

REAL disapointed in runs this week. Even with good freezes at night most of the week, only averaged a quart of sap per tap.
Will boil this mornig..
Hope others are doing better............

Since it's not looking to good in the forcast, decided to boil down some of what was left in pan.
I'm at 9qts finished...possably 1 more still in pan.
Figuered averaging a ratio of 37:1

Not quiting yet...just reducing the amount of sap that will be sitting in the pan for who knows how long.

Do need to be all cleaned up by April 1st regaurdless of season

Well, at least it seems a lot of us are in a similar situation. To date, I'm at 20 percent of usual production and doubt there is much more to be had. No snow and no frost in the ground won't help but I'll hang in there until the, so called, bitter end.

Do you think this may affect the price? It will be interesting to watch the retail price of syrup on the shelves. I guess will have to wait and see how our Canadian brothers do with the rest of their season.

Good luck....

I'm gonna stay plugged in and see what happens next week. My holes are only 3 weeks old so they shouldn't be dried up yet. I have plenty of wood still and even Commercial Syrup is worth something. I do suspect there's a high probability of Bud Run by next week though, even here in the North Country.

Finished up the last of my 2010 season today.
Here are some of my numbers;
14 taps
25 days taped
114 gal of sap total

Works out to only 1/3 gal sap per tap per day

3 gal syrup made...38:1

I've got 40 taps and have 7 gallons syrup made. Still hoping to hit my goal(10 gallons. One more strong run should get it done.

Keyes Hollow Gold
03-29-2010, 11:12 AM
It looks like I'm going to get my "one more strong run". Some taps are phlowing stronger than they have all season, while some aren't phlowing at all. I have 70 gallons oph sap now, so at this rate, I should get the 3 gallons needed to reach my 10 gallon goal.

This is it. I'm up early boiling. I have about 100 gallons sap and hot weather this weekend has kinda phorced my hand. This should get me to my goal oph 10 gallons.

Phinal tally. 9 3/4 gallons out oph 40 taps. It's a good thing I started early!!
