I ordered a 100 cup coffe urn today. What exactly do i take out of it to use it for syrup. Do I need to modify the heating element at all? Thanks

I took mine out of the box washed real good and rinsed it real good and just pluged it in and started using it. Mine is not a big but size only matters when you need to know how much syrup it will hold. Hope all you sap flow good and long.

You just don't pull the screen and the stem out of it. Just use the bare pot and the lid. Your now the proud owner of a stem and a screen with not real use.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Can it still be used for coffe in the off season without an off flavor in the syrup?

Haynes uses his so probbably. You just scrub it out a bit. But who needs a 100 cups of coffee except Theron.

Ok then I guess I need to hide it in a really good place in the off season so my mom doesnt make coffe with it.

keep it with all your other maple syrup stuff. Coffee always leaves a bad flavor in syrup howver syrup makes coffee taste much better. I keep all my pots and my 100 cup coffee pot seperate from any kitchen use. I never wash any of it with soap just hot water.

Where did you find a 100 cup coffee urn? How hot will the syrup get while in the urn? I'm looking for one but my wife claims the urns wouldn't get hot enough for the syrup to kill any bacteria that might be remaining in the bottles. Thanks

I ordered mine from amazon.com. I haven't used it yet because I haven't made enough syrup yet. Pleanty of other producers use one and say they work great.

Keep looking on Ebay you will find just the onr that will fit the need. Dont try and reheat syrup to fast because the element will boil it. They are best used to maintain the syrup temp during bottling. If they can boil water during brewing then they can keep syrup hot.

I just bought one this year and haven't used it yet since our sap isn't running yet. From what I have read here it sounds like if I filter hot syrup right into the urn it will maintain the syrup around 190. I'm gonna keep a thermometer in it and if it proves to be too much heat I might have to plug it into a rheostat or something.
