snow depth/sap run

I have very little snow up at my camp this year typically I would have 3.5 feet about now vs 6 inches. Does lack of snow translate into potential short season

Some of my best years of production have been on years with little or no snow---I really think it all depends on how much moisture you get during the season. I get back to you in May!!

Last year we could have tapped some areas in running shoes and it was our best season ever. In 2008 we had to dig most of our laterals and mainlines out of the snow and it was a terrible season. The weather during the season has more impact than snow conditions.

Last year was about my best year and at the most there was 3" in the valleys of snow to nothing on top of the hills. The bad thing about no snow cover is that it warms up the tubing more, thus making a darker product earlier than you should be.

A lack of insulating snowpack = more of the tree thawing = more pressure = more sap = more syrup!

At least in theory...
