Sanford, Maine - Taps are In!

Syrup Season has begun! Tapped 24 trees today. Limiting factors: cordless drill battery life (approx 10 trees per charge) and my supply of milk jugs. As it is, I had to improvise with some 20oz water bottles. Might go for another 17 taps tomorrow. Will use refractometer to cull lower sugar content trees. Woo!

I've got some taps that are producing well over 1/2 a gallon per day. Is this a lot?

Hey Bussell, Try checking with Hannaford or Walmart bakery. They usually have buckets they will give you. They are food grade and had frosting in them, easy to clean. Sure beats milk jugs and water bottles.
