Hi again

I am making a fuel oil arch for my 24x36 divided pan and I would like to know what distance from the bottom of the pan to the grate would be best. I am going to make my fire box 24" deep and ramp up the rest to the stack if that makes a difference?

Only a few week to tapping time in south eastern Ontario:)

thanks
Wino

I made an oil tank arch last year. The pans are 17" above the fire grate- seems to work well. It boils about 13 gal/hr with flat pans.

What will be your wood source and how willing are you to cut it small. You dont want to be slamming wood into the bottom of the pan every time you fire. What size door do you plan on making?

My wood is cut 16 inches long and I split it 3-4 inch diameter. The wood is maple with some ash with some old scrap lumber. I was thinking the door would be 12x12 but I am very open for suggestions. My pan has a flat bottom.

18 inches seems to be the distance. 24 might work but you might end up haveing to load more wood to keep the flame up to the pan.
