Has anyone ever tapped any trees other than maples. My neighbor says he used to tap his apple trees and made some great tasting apple syrup.

Any thoughts?

They tap and make birch syrup in Alaska. I think the ratio is close to 100 to 1 on some of the trees. 8O

We used to see loads of birch sap when we cut fire wood in the spring. Usually there was snow on the ground. Guess we missed out as we cut the birch trees. Few years ago at Maine Maple Products we had conversation on birch syrup, they had a story about 1/1000 people have a reaction to birch syrup. They called it birch posioning? Anyone hear of it?
