Looking through the 2010 CDL catalog, I see they've got stainless health spouts for buckets for $1.48 (page 4, item #15). Anybody using these? That's a much better price then Leader's hookless aluminum spouts for $2.40.

From what I understand they do not stay seated in the tree's. Not sure why.

Nope, we're talking about different spouts. These look just like the old Grimm rolled spouts for buckets (pic below), but they're stainless health spouts.

Are the ones in question the ones with the round washer-like end to them? No hook either, just smooth?

These are not ideal for some buckets. If you have a large hanger hole in the pail and the bucket bottom ends up hanging out away from the spile (not at 90 degrees with the tree), and you put the spile in with a steep downward angle, the drip ends up dripping on the bucket opening and not always going in the bucket. Some, or all the sap ends up going down the outside of the pail.

What they need is a small extension so the drip has no choice but to fall into the pail, like the Leader taps.

I would call CDL. I think there is a typo. I don't think those rolled spouts come in 5/16. I think they got item 15 and 16 switched. Item 16 in the catalog is there 5/16 health spout.

We use plastic 5/16 tre savers from EMBEE Plastics. They work good for us. Here is their address http://embeeplastics.com/sapiteminfo.html

I wondered if it was a typo. I saw some other typos just like you described, where they switched picture/description numbers (like page 30, items 2, 3, 4, 5).

I'll call them, but I think my hopes have been dashed...stainless health spouts for buckets for under $2/ each...too good to be true.

They also nicely put in some of UVM PMRCs work on high vacuum, but unfortunately got the axis titles wrong on one of the figures so it doesn't make any sense at all. Oh well....if you want the real thing, go to http://www.uvm.edu/~pmrc/vacsap.pdf Other than the typos, the new catalog looks really nice, well designed and laid-out.

The only health bucket spout my french catolog has in the small size is the new fancy blue ones. They go for $1;99 here. They look pretty so I bought a couple to try out and see what happens.
