Baking Soda?

I spot welded in dividers last year and I also have new stainless and brass fittings between the pans, so the pan needs need a cleaning. I remember reading here a long time back about boiling some baking soda in pans to clean up the residue from welds in new pans - or am I thinking of something else? My search turned up empty.

re pan cleaning: to my knowledge, the only usage for baking soda is to neutralize any acid residue after cleaning your pans with the Pan Cleaner Acid. (Acid residue will corrode your pans.)

You use a paste of bakeing soda and cream of tarter as a mild abrasive cleaner for things like SS,copper and such.

When I got my new pans they told me to dilute 1lb of baking soda to 200 gals of water and boil this to clean/ neutralize any reside that might left there after building them.
