I've been putting up more gravity lines. I have 86 taps ready to go and plan to string up 14 more. Then maybe 20-30 more on 5 gal buckets.

Way too much snow for me here in Clinton county

Yeh, too much snow for me tooo. It took a 4 wheel drive truck and 3 tractors to clean my drive this morning. It was over knee deep with fresh snow and in some place over waist deep. I need to get into the woods to finish working on my tubing but that won't happen any time soon, now.

We got 33 inches of fresh snow. All of the tubing in the woods has disappeared. Starting to feel like I in Canada.

I think we only got 8-10, but it was a wet snow, if it were dry, probably would have been 12-14. Snow drifts equal that easily though, I had 2 feet of snow blocking the door to the sugar shack. my four wheeler even had some struggle at times to get over the drift mounds. Cleaning equipment all day getting ready for the first boil. However, all the sap I have is in solid form right now. It is currently sitting in the garage thawing. I think I am thawing out finally too. The east coast will be slammed again with snow. No :o there though as they always get it bad.

You guys are all singing the song that I normally sing. Funny how nature works. I am looking forward to not seeing buckets 5 feet up the trees this year. Snowfall is way below norm. I think I only have 1 foot of snowpack here and there usually is atleast 3 feet of snowpack. Notice I say snow pack the loose fresh stuff doesn't count cause it melts off in a hurry. Finally for once it is not me.:)

Wow, looks like we were in a funny sheltered pocket over in Warren County, if Clinton was seeing a lot of snow. I would be surprised if it added up to 3 inches. I can still see the grass poking through. Still, it was enough to distract for the afternoon clearing off the driveway (we don't have a plow yet). So I *still* haven't gotten that pipe up. This weekend we were supposed to be boiling, but I will be lucky if I can just get the pan cleaned. Looks like I'll be freezing more sap until the weekend.

On the surprising side, my new sap hydrometer came yesterday. I measured three different days' buckets of mixed sap containing sugar (just the one tree), many silvers and reds, and came out between 2.5 and 3%. I would have guessed a lot lower, so that was a nice surprise.

Don't be surprised to see high sugar content in your silvers and red, especially if they are out in the open rather than being tucked into the middle of a forest. These cold temps will help as well, sugar is always higher right after a good freeze.

Hardly have any snow here this year. We had all our moisture as rain this winter instead. Last year I had to wade through snow.
