Was out scouting more maple and some maples still had leaves on this time of year. Is that a sign of something bad?? planning on thinning for next two weeks as low snow in woods.
I'm not sure but I know in our county many of the sugar maples at their lower branches held onto their leaves this year. They didn't turn colors just turned brown and dead. I was wondering about this in the fall. I think maybe due to drought conditions followed by too much rain shocked the trees?

It's only my healthiest and fastest growing young maples that retain their leaves in the fall. I don't think you have a problem.

Sugars and blacks around here really retained leaves this fall - can spot them from far away - here, there are only 3 deciduous trees that retain their leaves - oak, beech, and, occasionally sugar/black maple.
