I guess I will never get my thermometer from Patrick anytime soon. I went ahead and purchased a 9" Leader thermometer and it is not long enough. I need a 12" stem like Patrick originally told me. All I see in Leader and Bascoms catalogs are 6 and 9 inch stems. There is a 12" digital, but I don't know if it is threaded like the others.

The new CDL/Maple Pro catalog has thermometers with 12" stems, see the below link.

The closest CDL/Maple Pro dealer to you is Jim Cermak in Middlefield.
Or check with Karl Evans in Orwell, he's even closer to you.

12" hanna is not threaded. I took an old 7/16" spile, drilled a hole the size of the thermometer stem, twisted into the themometer port, and now have a holder for the hanna. great thermometer, just have extra aaa batteries in the saphouse .

I was just looking at the Maple Guys and their 12" hannah is threaded. How fast do they typically ship their items?

There shipping is fast. I just ordered some stuff from them and had it in three days. I also have the hanna 12" and it works great. Drilled a small hole towards the top of my pan just over the draw off valve. Slide it in the hole till just off the bottom of the pan. It stays right there when things are getting close I watch it and draw off till it drops 2 degrees.

I got a 12" Hanna from the Maple Guy's last year. The thermometer is not threaded. However, it comes with a compression fitting. It can go any where on the stem and has 1/4" NPT male threads on one end. If they have it in stock, it ship fast.

Kim usually ships same day or next day. Ordered from them every year for last 7 or 8 and they are tremendous to deal with. Shipped me a Lappierre filter press 1,000 miles.

I don't think the Marcland thermometers are threaded, wished they were as I would like to have one for my canning unit.

I got a 5" thermometer with a 12" stem ($78) from D&G this year, if Maple Guy's does not work out try them. http://www.dominiongrimm.ca/en/produits?sectionid=15&catid=30

Do these thermometers have a straight stem like about 1/4 inch diameter?

I rigged one of these up for another purpose by buying a fitting (1/4 male NPT) that connects to 1/4 OD copper tubing with a ferrule. It fit perfect, but you could also drill out a slightly smaller one and replace the ferrule with an O ring...

Got my Hanna 12" thermometer from The Maple Guys. Ordered Sunday on the internet and it arrived today. Nice fast service. Says that the AAA battery is good for 10,000 continous hours. Probably not when stored in the frigid cold of my sugarhouse.
