When do you think you will tap this year in eastern MA? I always seem to tap too early and my taps dry out as everyone else is still boiling and after last week in the high 40's I got the urge but still managed to hold off

I understand the urge, especially when it's 4-5 days of 40ish weather the way it was, but that's just the January thaw trying to mess with our heads. Winter came howling back in a big way last night.
I aim for Presidents' Day, but watch the weather ahead. This year, I'm so crazy behind schedule I could use a deep freeze right through February.

I'm aiming for Feb. 14 (valentine's day).
Looking at the 10-day forecast for my area, it's just not warming up enough to tap any earlier.

I'm too busy sitting up front and getting yelled at on town meeting day.
What's the tap count going to be for the MapleCrest this year? I never got to say hi at Bellow's Falls.

We're looking at the weekend of the 20th. Can't wait.
I retract all of my statements about tapping for presidents day. I thought it was the normal 20th weekend. Not right after valentines day.

Got up to near 40 degrees today. Just put in one tap on my one tree. (18" Silver Maple, far as I can tell) Couldn't wait any more. It's 4 pm now and there was just a couple drops of sap, but this tree gets southern sun all day, the grass on the south side was already melted out of the snow, so hoping for a run tommorrow. This tree should run early. Will only put in 7 more taps in Grandma's Sugar Maples this year, and may have to wait until Sat. to tap them. If I get a couple gallons from this tree by Sat. I'll boil it, just to see what the flavor is like.

Been tapping for 3 days now. It hit 37F this afternoon, and all the holes were wet as we drilled them. Those C-V adapters REALLY grip the stubby's.
Nice crust on the snow, just a small pair of snowshoes and a guy can scoot right along.

Couldn't wait until Sat. Way too warm, so put in my other seven taps in Grandma's sugar maples. They all started running right away. She's down in Cherry Valley and it's a bit more sheltered and warmer there. Really tasted sweet.
The silver maple got a lot of wind and only put out about a pint today. Hope the sugars do better tommorrow.

Put in 190 taps on 2/19. Sap ran good yesterday while I was cleaning tanks and the sugarhouse. We'll put in a few more taps today before I sweeten the pans this afternoon. Hope everyone has a great season.
