This warm spell has me thinking about tapping already, but I usually wait until 3rd week in February (depending). Anyone in yet? I don't want to miss those sweet early runs!

It was tempting but it would have taken a few days for trees to thaw and winter is back Tues. For the week(highs in the low 20's). Enjoy the next few weeks getting ready and relaxing because late nights are only a month away.

Suger content is decent, but you are not missing a great run, about a gallon of sap per tap.

49 degrees here in Mooers n.y. The snow is just about gone due to all this rain. Going to be 40 tomorrow but drops back it to the teens later in the week. The almanac is calling for more snow later in the month of feb. I hope we have a sugar season.

Plenty of cold weather yet to come. Will most likely tap in late February unless long term forecasts are very promising.

Last few days had me nervous. It was getting awful warm. I got about 500 taps up so far. About another 300 to go. I just hope it stays cool until we get her all hung up

Did not tap as of 2/20/10. As everyone else is saying--the long term forcast looks cold. No matter what it will be a fast and furious time when the drilling finally does start. Have fun everyone!

Started tapping today (sunday, 2/21) and they were running!

I am sure they will shut down again with the cold weather coming though....

Mapleking - I feel your pain. I checked the electric motor to my pump the other day. Pulley wasn't turning. Motor was filled with mice stuff and they chewed through all the coiling. There goes some of this years profits.

Might tap this weekend based on the 10 day forecast on Friday. No sense in doing it with temps in the low 30's.

Had planned to tap this weekend, but it sounds like some of my trees may be inaccessible due to snow depth. Hope the forecast changes. If not, still plenty of work to be done in the shack.
