My shack

So after 2 years of boiling on progressively bigger evaporators in "god's sugarhouse" otherwise known as the driveway. I decided enough was enough.
So friday I got a load of stone in, saturday we framed and sunday we started to rough it in.
Hopefully this saturday I can roof it and get the 2 walls done. There is a huge bay window going in the hole in the wall, from the dump and 2 smaller "storm" style windows going in the other walls. I've been making everything flush with a jonsered climbing saw and which is why the roof boards are hanging over.

Looks good so far. Git er done! Who needs a circular saw when you have a Jonsered? I checked out your album. Are those hayfields on route 152 ? The farm looks familiar. The photo of the dirt bike in the trunk is classic. LMAO.

Your pretty good for a lousy cellphone pic. Those are right on 152 after/before bridge for the town line. We've been haying them for 5 or 6 years now. There is a beautiful sugar bush behind the brick house all sloped perfectly but the kid (my age but he's still a kid) has been talking about tapping it for 10 years now. Ya I had to grab a pic of that dirt bike in the honda.
You probably drive by my parents farm which is the last place on 152 before the 125 light quite a bit also. I have 50 or so taps there.

Dill, I'm sure we've crossed paths at some point. I've grown up in this town, it's pretty small so everything becomes familiar real quick. Thats a nice piece of property your folks have. I think I went to school with that kid in the brick house, I remember the bus stopping there.
Any how, good luck with the shack, I'm sure I'll be envious when I'm boiling in god's sugar house this spring.

We must have. I graduated from ORHS is 97. Worked at Gooch's for a while, then Fernald lumber. Heck my sap helper is 2.65 years old at this point :lol:
I just remembered there are 2 brick houses there, I'm talking about Perkins, not the "almost antiques" if you look out towards the hay field out back as you navigate that blind curve by the house, you can see a hill covered in maple trees.

LOL, I know the trees. I've been scouting for some more trees in town, but the Bascombes got the roadsides pretty well taken care of. My wife rode on the orhs bus with you for a year, before she transferred to Dover. We both graduated in 97 too. I guess we'll be seeing ya around.

There is a house with a bunch of really nice trees out on rt 4. I think its across from Freeman hall road. Not knowing where you live in nottingham.
Anyway a big red colonial that's been for sale or lease for 2 years. Giant trees, bucket only probably. (I can sell you plenty of those) Not handy for me so I've never looked into it. But probably 50-75 taps in there..

Yeah, I got tired of getting snowed on and standing in the cold, so
we did the same last year - on the MLK weekend, no less, coldest of the
year. We used rough green lumber, which was frozen solid. Here are
a few pix - it's 12 x 12, and I only got around to putting the doorson
last week (and the last piece of roofing, as well)

Right on top of the hill, above the Ice cream stand and land care, I've seen those trees too. I figured some one had dibs on those for sure, but now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing gear on em last year. I got a lot to do this year and Tap time seems to be creeping up on me. I have a little steel trailer that I'm going to try to turn into a hobo rig, if not I'll be on the blocks again. I bet I could put some buckets to use. I'm out behind the Lee raceway, where the two roads meet (No I don't live in the nudist camp! lol).

Yup those trees. I've been staring at them and telling people about them for a while. But they just aren't handy for me. I'll keep an eye out for some trees in your area. In fact the first bunch that come to mind on are Cartland road in Lee. Talk to Dwight Barney at the sheep farm he has some on the roadside and so do the Gunns at Walnut Grove farm.

No pictures, but I got the arch in there today, and made some doors. Now I wish I had gone 16L instead of 14. Notice that to fire it, I'll need to open a door. Or lose a lots of weight. So back to swing open doors instead of a slider.
Also after debating and looking at options. I'm going with the trash can roof jack. Now I just need to find some more 10 inch stack.
