I'm thinking of getting a larger tank to store my filtrate/permeate in and I have a chance to get a 1,500 gal. round bottom, galvanized tank for a reasonable price but I've been told by someone that the filtrate/permeate will strip the galvanizing off the tank. Is this true? I thought I was just working with filtered water once the sugar was removed from the sap.

I'm no expert, but my understanding was that permeate is about as close to distilled water as you can get without distilling it. It shouldn't do anything to galvanizing.

Doug is correct---buy it!! Rinsing with 1600 gallons of permeate will also be good for your membranes.

I am no expert either but I agree with Doug. If the price is right buy it.

I am no scientist or professor, but distilled water is lacking minerals, which
can make it somewhat corrosive (mineral hungry). you should be just fine
with galv, just keep an eye on the lap joint seems and rivets.

Thank you for the replies. I'll use the galvanized tank.

Permeate is not the same a distilled water--distilled water will dissolve and soften nitre. Permeate is great for cleaning, but doesn't have the makeup to dissolve minerals.

Hmmm rain water has almost no impact on a car but salt water rust the heck out of them.
