Are there any producers out there that have either purchased or manufactured an air injection system for there pan set that they would be willing to share photos??? Any help / advise would be greatly appreciated.

dschultz,
Thanks for the information.....I have an appointment with Jim Adamski to go and see his unit, I have seen it work in the past, just didn't take good notes. I was asking around for other possiable pictures and advice for other points of view. Any information by other parties is appreciated.

Does anybody know what is used to supply the air? Would a blower work fine or is high pressure air needed? I'm considering adding air injection to my flue pan this year.

Josh--You'll need a high pressure pump

The pumps I saw were vaccum cleaner pumps (new, not used) hooked into a air filtering system.

Thanks.

A vacuum cleaner pump seems like it would be obnoxiously loud to listen to it all day. Are there quieter models than the ones typically found?

Yes it is loud, he had it in another room. But you couldn't here it with the vaccum pump and his 2 ROs running.

Josh, you've already got the air pressure you need in the exhaust from your vacuum pump ... if it is oil free that is.

You would not be able to use the air from most vac pumps. They will over heat if you restrict the exaust just like you vehicle will if the exaust is restricted. Plus the air needs to be as fresh as possible with no odors. Any odors will just be injected into the syrup

My neighbor built one and he used a small shop vac he bought at Lowes
He mounted it in the top of his sap house and just reversed the inlet and outlet.

Would something like this work?

I have one, which I obviously can't use becuase it's been cleaning up god knows what, but I could get a new one...that'd be a pretty cheap blower, albeit a bit loud.

To give you something you can campare to, I use a 110v colman quick pump with a total of 12' of 1/2" pipe (1/16" hole drilles every inch apart). That little pump had more then enough cfms, I have to put in a ball valve to slow the air flow.

I have one of these and they work great, but I would think you would burn it up running it 10 to 12 hours in a day nonstop and you are probably going to be restricting some of the output of the air also. Best time to buy one of these is around Christmas as Sears or Kmart usually have them on sale for 1/2 price or $ 14.99.

I ran mine for 10 to 12 hours a day for the whole season. BUT it did not sound good at the end of the season.

If you were running most of those cheap shop vacs in the cold they would probbably do well. Most of them I have seen stop running had the filters so plugged they couldn't suck beans anymore and the motors over heat from the restriction. So just sucking nice clean air with no dirt and dust they should last a while.

Are you guys filtering the air at all? I'd think the shop vac. would work great because it comes with a filter.

I've got some ideas now, now I just need time to build it. Thanks for the input.
