pump question

could i use a pump like this (link below) to pull sap to the sugarhouse up hill 100' and 1000' long. i know nothing of vac pumps:confused:

Here a link bellow about that pump. I can't figure out the grafts but it says it is a 3.2 cfm pump. That should be plenty for your amount of taps (if it will pull high vac levels).

No, the max lift you can get in a perfect vacuum is something like 32' and in reality you can never get that much. If you need to get it up 100' you need to put a pump at the bottom and push it up. Make sure the pump is rated to push that high, many aren't.

I re-read your question and saw you wanted pull the sap 100' high to sugar house, thats alot. There are sap pumps that run on vaccum but I don't know how high they will lift.

i have been using a pump at the bottom to push the sap up to point where i can get to with the tractor, but as iam sure you know once the pump suckes air thats it and cant ever get all the sap. :( well i guess i'll have to deal with it) thanks.

if you want to pump sap to the sugarhouse buy a 1inch honda gas pump, not a vac pump

Does anyone have experience with other brands of transfer pumps similar to the Honda? TSC has a 1" Mustang with a Mitsubishi engine for $239.

That pump will work. A little tip...put a T with a gate valve and return line in the discharge side of the line right where your pump takes the sap from the tank. This way when the pump sucks air and stops pumping you can return the sap back into the tank without it A)freezing in the line, and B) putting back pressure into the pump housing that may blow it apart. Had this happen once years ago on a similar application.

By the way..when I said that pump will work I meant the one at TSC not the vacuum pump.

Great idea beans. we did something simular but we were only pumping about 30' in 1 in pipe and drained it of into a 5 gal bucket. works good.

ejmaple; We had the same type of situation.1000 plus tap down over a hill no good road to haul out on.We ran 800 feet of 1 inch black, hung it on the main line wire. Did I mention that the lift was 95 feet UP!!!! We bought a high pressure fire fighting pump rated at 135 gallon per minute at 235 feet of head.We hooked it to a tank of 235 gallons of water.started the engine and the water shot out of the end of the pipe at the top of the hill 6 feet!.10 minutes later the tank was empty.
Get your self a big enough pump the first time don't be fooled by the 'we think it will work' line.
