Anybody know what grade of stainless sheet to use to make a flue pan out of?I need to biuld a new one,I have soldered and soldered and I 'am hopping to get one last season out of my old tin flue pan.

I believe it's usually 304. Occasionally 316.

Mine is 304 grade 20 gauge stainless

Yes, thats what is usually used. I used that grade. I was told that all the 300 series could be used, but I need verification for that...

Most plumbing supply outfits carry stainless fittings that can be welded on, "half couplers" for instance. The fittings will have 304 either marked on them or cast right into them.

My feed store sells 304 fittings far cheaper then any other place for some reason. Was amazed in the difference in prices between them and D&G.

Don't quote me for sure but I think 308 or 316 grade stainless is magnetic. Stay away from that crap. The first evaporator I bought was made of that it looked nice but it was full of pin holes. When you get your stainless take a magnet and make sure it doesn't stick. If it does stay away you will save yourself a lot of headaches down the road.

Some 400 seires stainless is magnetic like 416. 300 seires is not. any 300 seires would be ok as for it is great for food service. Stay away from any 400 seires or any thing magnetic.
