Well I got those prefilters. One thing is, I seen the same type of fabric at walmart stores.

Does anyone know what those square pre filters are made of ??

Must you pre boil those pre filters??

Thanks
Charlie

Charlie,

I have never boiled my prefilters as they seem fine, but since yours came from who knows where since Walmart sold them, might want to give them a good washing.

As far as what material the synthetic filters are, I have no idea. I have tried other things in the past that just didn't work good enough, but if you want to do it right, might just want to break down and order you one.

Hi Charlie, I don't know about the material at Walmart but I do preboil all my synthetic filters just in case. I do seem to get some residue on top of the water on the initial boil. I cut my filter material into squares and use a fine stainless steel mesh collender I picked up an a linen and things for about $10 to do my filtering into my turkey fryer finisher. :D Then I filter it again it to my coffee pot bottler. :D Dang! Boy I sure have a good system going now.  Of course I have 3 or 4 layers of the prefilter paper on top of the synthetic to save on cleaning time.
Hope this helps and have a great day.

Hey Brandon,
My filters came from loch's maple farm. They came 12 per pack. I also got some nice bottles threw him to. They where cheaper than the other fella you said. I got the 3 color Pa. one's.
$.60 QT
$.57 PINT
$.55 1/2 PINT
tax included

But what Im saying is I did buy some muslin cloth to try and when I was up at walmart before I got the prefilters.

I seen a couple differnt fabrics there that looked just like what I bought threw Loch's.

Al, I will boil them just in case.

Thanks
Charlie

Charlie,

Sounds like to me you stole the jugs instead of buying them. I have not seen jugs that cheap in 15 years. 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

what are you all paying for your bottles??
The filters cost me $17.65. Which I quess was fair price.

Even though I seen a few fabrics at walmart that where more th 1/2 the cost of these, Id swear they are the same thing..

Charlie,

I'm not sure, but I think I pay around 85 to 90 cents per quart and around 75 to 80 cents for pints. I have never bought the jugs I am using this year before. In the past, I have always used sugarhill jugs and this year I went to Les Cruchons as they have West Virginia jugs and these are the first I have ever found. Never used them before, but I really like the design and features a lot. :D

Found a 1995 catalog from Bascom's that i happen to have-List sugarhill jugs-
Qt- .70
Pt- . 58
1/2pt- .55
Also found a 1998 Bascom's catalog that list the increased price's as .03 a jug. Really wonder what 1990 prices were? or the 1980 jug prices for kick's and giggle's.

Those companies sound over priced. I beleave Boscom where cheaper also? Not much cheaper, but cheaper than those others. But i cant remember At this point. The fella at loch's maple told me he carries them all the time for that price. .

My wife was wondering what he might charge for glass. beings we got the plastic jugs so cheap.
