2 X 4 Leader arch with drop flue pan. I burned 2 1/2 cords of mostly dry pine with 16 gallons or syrup made. My trees tend to have lower sugar content then many here. Hope this helps.

Last season I was getting about 10 gallons of syrup per cord on a 2x4 oil drum evaporator. The wood was mostly poplar and pine but there was some hardwood too.

Get in about 3 cords and you should be safe. May not take that much, but depends on a lot of factors and better have too much wood and not enough.

Never can have too much wood. I cut 15 full cords of wood this year and still haul home pallets everyday when I can get them. Would hate to have to ever cut more wood while makeing syrup. I made 20 gallons of syrup but never kept much track of the wood usage. Just kept shoving it in and splitting more.

Alot will depend on the stove..
I use a 2x3 on home made arch..made just under 5 gal n only used about half a cord of wood.

put up enough so that when you look at the pile it looks like theres enough there for 2 seasons that way you might run out of wood with only a couple days left in this season! ;)

I have close to 3 cords of pine cut hopefully thats all I will need but I also have 1 cord of poplar ready to go about 25 pallets covered but not cut up and more coming all the time, + before it snows I am going through the woods and find large brush that I can trim and drag home (lots fell down in the wind last weekend) + I have about 3 more cords of pine ccut and covered but not split... so I feel ready!!! thats no including the hard wood for the house either!!! hope I have enough if not I will find more!!!!

What is the wood to syrup ratio that everyone strives for? I ran about 10 gallons per cord last year.

when our 2.5x8 was stock (natural draft, open pans with no hoods or pre-heater) we were around 20 gals. per cord. but now with forced draft, pre-heater, reverse osmosis we are around 70 gals. per cord and not concentrating real sweet.

I just looked around in a few books and it seems to vary. one said 100 taps 1 cord (thats full cord) one said 16 gallons to a cord, another one says 20 gallons 1 cord... IT is the different variation of evap and its effieciency, attachments, forced draft, etc and type of wood burned I guess.
