what is the farthest a vacuum pump will suck sap? I realize this is a broad statement bc im sure there are so many exceptions and details that has to be given. but say a place is spread out over maybe three quarters of a mile all somewhat down hill would it be possible? maybe even out as far as 1 1/2 miles? whats the farthest u guys will run tubing?

Id have to pace it off but Ive got line run out that I know has to be at least 8000 feet. Ill let you know how it works in a couple months. Theron

My releaser is 900 feet away from my vacuum pump. My farthest mainline ends about 2000 feet farther than that. I only lose 2 inches of vacuum to the end of the farthest mainline and that is through a 2 pipe sap ladder. You can go farther than that. Mostly it will depend on the cfm's of the pump and the size of the mainlines. Large dry lines with boosters will get you pretty far with good vacuum transfer.

Russ is right. With a good tight system and adequate size lines you can go a looooonnnnnng way. I am out over a mile in a couple of places and still get good vacuum.

Theron,

You could measure you mainline with a GPS that has a trip odometer. My Garmin measures to 1/100th of a mile.

I've got 2000 feet from pump to releaser and at least another 1000 feet to the furthest tap in that bush. It'll still hurt your tongue at the end!

My third releaser is 3000 feet from the pump with 6 main lines going from there this with 3hp oil cooled vac pump I'm planning to go another 2000 feet with a forth releaser might have to go up in pump size
I've heard Glen Goodrich say you can go around the world with pipe and have vacuum as long as you don't have any leaks

i have been to bushes that are going 2-3 miles from one pump location, 10's of thousands of taps, and maintain 26 inches. all without manifolds(boosters) or mainifold tanks. the four most important rules of of tubing must be followed: 1 proper pipe size
2 straight
3 Tight
4 most improtant!!!!make your leaks!!!
you have to walk your lines daily!!!!

yes i do tubing for a living, i am a one man show so when you get in the 10,000 range that is a couple month or so job for me. i like big jobs for steady work but i also will do smaller one other guys won't do. helping other syrupmakers make more is what i love to do.
