Tonight I picked up some stainless and made my first edition hygrometer cup. I used 2" 304 stainless pipe, and .25" 304 stainless rod. It stands 8" tall. I might invest in a turntable in the future as it is near to impossible to make a perfect weld in 360 degrees. I might change the design on the handle, but it felt really comfortable in my hands. If anybody has any ideas on handle ideas, I'm open to them.

Mine is an inch from the cup. I'll maybe move out to 1.5" for more spacing.

Very pretty. Make sure that you can hang it easily off stuff. That way you dont have to set it down.

not sure if its pattented or not, but I like the accu-cup design that mapleguys have been making with a port for a thermometer...

Looks good. Maybe extend the handle past the bottom post a little farther so it can be hung. I personally have broken many hydrometers from tipping them over. A nice big stable base is a plus as well in my book.

As stated make the handle so you can hang it in the float box or over the evap side. having it in the steam will allow for quicker preheat with syrup and it will stay cleaner as syrup will build up on the sides. If the base becomes to big they hang up on things as you pick it up and set it into the evap or box. I found if you could put the handle at the right hight and the cylinder high enough that you can hold the Hydrometer with your thumb as you dump syrup one handed.

I hung it on the side of one of my pans here, and it sits almost perfectly level. Good guess I suppose. Only 99 more to go.
