HI guy's Is It true what they say about the stack. It should be twice as long as the evaporator example 6' long = 12' stack. Also for those who use oil fired rigs should you run a damper on the stack. I am new to oil fire so any input would be great. Thank's. Todd

Yes the stack should be twice the length as a minumun. Most oil fired evaporators will use barometric damper to keep it from getting too much draft which will pull the flame away from the nozzle making it inefficient.

My understanding of the use of a damper is you would only need one for oil if your stack is too long.

you would be correct with the length. If you do a search you will find ALOT of threads that have already answered your questions.

I agree that on a wood fired rig the stack needs to be 2 x the length of the arch.
Question?
Does the stack on a oil fired also need to be 2 x? I Would think not? since you have a closed system not requiring draft for the fire.???
Any way when we ran oil on the farm we had a bout a 12-15 foot stack on a 3 x 10 arch.
