Arch insulation

I run a 2 x 6 arch, fully firebricked but I find that a good amount of heat still finds its way out the sides, so much that it can be uncomfortable standing next to it. I would like to restrict the heat so that it stays under the pans. Would a layer of fire board on top of the brick be a good idea?

do you have arch board under your bricks?? If you put arch board over your bricks it will get ripped up very quickly form the wood. and hard to clean out ashes etc. the arch board should be put in first then the bricked over that to protect the insulation.
