We are having our woodlot cut and I wrapped snow fencing around the base of the maple trees on the main skid trail. It may give the maples a fighting chance, and keep the bark together. Of course if the skidder hits them, all bets are off. I found some old fashioned wooden snow fence at Home Depot, after checking 2 local lumberyards. I'll let you know if it works.
