View Full Version : Diameter of stacks on evap?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what the diameter of the stacks are on smaller evaps like a 2x6 or equivalent. I have a 1/2 pint and I need 6" pipe for it. However, in the event that I upgrade down the road I'd like to buy the correct size pipe for a larger evaporator. I found an adapter to go from 6" to 8" and can use that if the larger evaps take 8" pipe.

I guess I'd just hate to buy 6" double wall pipe now and then have to turn around and buy 8" or 10" pipe later.

Thanks,
Keith

I think all the new Leader/King/Grimm have at least 10" stack on them other than maybe the WSE, but I could be wrong. Better to go a little larger if anything, you can easily find and add a damper to a 8" stack if neccessary.

Thanks for the responses. Guess I have to save a bit more before I sink money into the 10". Also not sure if I can find a 6" to 10" adapter but it seems like if I'm eventually going to a larger evap that I should probably have one made.

you could always go 6" to 8" then 8" to 10" adapters. Might be less expensive to have it made.

Stoweski 8" pipe will be plenty. I have 8 on my 2x6 and have no problems whatsoever. The key is the height of the stack.

I have a 2 x 6 Maple pro and it has a 10 inch stack.

I picked up my Maplepro 2x6 this summer and have either a 9" or 10" stack on it as well... can I ask what you did for a roof jack? Local stove shop, order online, etc. I have an 8 pitch roof and am going to vent through the ridge.

Thanks

I've been browsing a few catalogs recently and noticed that most evaps come with stacks. I didn't realize this before posting my original question. Is this frequently the case and if so, how much stack is included? Is it just the base stack or do they actually come with a few feet of it?
Anyone know if they come with a roof jack and cap?

If they do come with a stack then I think I'd prefer sticking with 6" for now and then if I decide to sell the evap I have I can include the stack also.

Gotta go rig up my cupola doors. Only thing left to do on my shack. It's raining so I have to find indoor jobs today.

If you order them from the manufactures, they usually come with twice the length of the evaporator in stack length and that includes the base stack. If you plan to order a new one, bite the bullet and pay the extra for stainless arch and stack. It has a ton higher resale value and will outlast galvanized many times.

They usually don't come with the roof jack. Size of stack I think is determind by fire box size. You probably don't want to under size the stack. You will lose your draft volume I think.
