...between the blanket insulation that is wrapped around stainless chimney liners and the ceramic blanket used in evaporators? Reason for asking is that I have a roll of 1/2" blanket insulation from my last house when I lined my chimney. Dont remember what the temp rating is on it but it makes a stainless liner zero clearance. It has a foil facing on its exterior. Can I use this on my 2x6 under the bricks?

What does it feel like. If it's stiff and glassy then it probbably will work. What I wonder is what it costs to buy. If it's cheaper then ceramic blanket then it would be another option. You could test it with a propane torch. The ceramic blanket takes a incredablie amount of heat and stands up to it.
