Hi Guys,

Whats your going rate on an ounce of maple sugar these days?

Wether its a one ounce leaf or a package of three 1/3oz. leaves? Just curious.

I have an opportunity to sell some leaves, so I'm trying to come up with a fair price. I don't want to give it away, but I don't want to overcharge either. There are some "high end" stores around here that sell candy, but their prices should be against the law!

We sell individual leaves for .25 cents and bag of 9 for 2.00 at the fair.

I get atleast a $1.00 per once packaged in a cardboard box and shrink wrapped. It also makes a difference if you have crystal coated it also.
You also have to consider volume discounts on larger quanities

I sold 1 oz. and 3 oz. maple leaf candies at a farmers market all summer for $1 and $3. Everyone seemed fine with the price. When doing the math I figured you boil off 20-30% in water so if a gallon is (11 lb x 16 oz) 176 oz. you are left with +/-132 oz of candy. Of course the last bit you pour doesn't make market worthy candy so it's a little less. Hope this helps!

Yea about a buck + a ounce. Sounds about right to me also. Should the same logic should apply to crumb also?? I would think so. You are boiling off even more water!

With those prices per pound I think I see candy in my future. I hope I make some light syrup this year.

I used Grade A Medium Amber to make mine and it sold well. The molds are pricey but last indefinitely so it's worth it....

While the price may sound good you need to remember you need to market it and unless you crystal coat it it has a sshort shelf life compared to syrup.
I usually get 6-8 weeks for a shelf life. So if you make candy and then don't sell it you done all that extra work and have got nothing for it.

True. Is it hard to crystal coat it? Do you just put maple sugar on it after it's set?

What if you froze it until you needed to fill orders?

You Can Freeze Candy To Extend The Shelf Life---you Just Need To Get It Out And Let It Air Dry For A Couple Days Before Packaging.
