Hi guys The guy that gave me a 2x3 evaporator gave me 104 more taps and I got 30 more food grade buckets yesterday. Most of the taps are rusty some just have a little spot while some have a little more. If I clean them good with a wire brush will they be safe to use. If they are i wil be up to about 145 taps.

Farmboy if you have access to a cement mixer throw them in there with some sand turn it on and walk away. Also do it outside cause it can get dusty. You can use them if they are cleaned up.

I put my taps in a tumbler for cleaning brass shells, then I covered them with microseal which is fda approved (food safe). It cleaned them up nice and the microseal keeps them from rusting again.

Figures somebody besides me would think of a brass tumbler. I had some rusty ones and found they didn't hurt the sap one bit. I just disenfected them well and away I went.

Try some clr and see what that does. Works great for cleaning the rust off things here. Just a thought.

Farmboy,
Sounds like the little or the big tumbler will work!!!
I've boiled them in Tea before and had good luck.
Because of the rusting problem (and other reasons) we have gone to the "Tree Saver" taps.
