I read in the last edition of the Maple News that there is going to be a "Second Annual Auction" in the New Bermen NY area. Does anyone have any info on this auction or any info on what they had last year. I might consider a trip there if I can get a list of what is being auctioned. Anyone with info please pass on.

Thanks

i found alittle bit of info. it,s on saturday sept/12th 2009.i do have a contact number if you want to bring something for the auction and/or wanta get more info.but,i don,t wanta post it here.i haven,t checked with the person to see if it,s ok to post it..if you want it pm me.
i was thinking the lewis county maple producers hosted it..i was wrong..it,s the northern new york maple producers co-op..there based in lewis county. the co-op was started years ago to help sell syrup that we couldn,t sell..now they seem to pay as good or better then most buyers.

I thought the northern new york maple co-op and the Lewis county maple producers merged into one cause of the small numbers that each group had. As far as I know Lewis county maple producer is not exclusive to Lewis county If you go to there website they list quite a few of the northern new york counties.

LCMP (Lewis County) does include Oswego county as well. I can understand up where you are, 3rdgen, but I feel like it would be more appropriate to put me in the central association, given my proximity to Onondaga and Cayuga counties. I assume the co-op is meant to be a purchasing and selling agency, but not really an association. The way I understand it, Neil Wright was instrumental in starting the co-op, as he had a decent market for syrup back then. Not sure if this is so, but that is how he told it to me. I sure do miss him.

It might be the Neil thing that was confusing me. The website mentions Neil Handy being instrumental to the begining of the LCMPA.

I went to Google and come up with farmingforumsite.com which talked about the first auction and also gave a date and a phone number for the second auction to be held 9/12/09. The location I do not know yet.

not as far as i know.we have been out of the maple loop for awhile but,got back into it in 2007/8.the info i have lists them as separate.
the co-op was started years ago.one year we made tons of fancy and then had no market for it.that was the start of the co-op.this spring my dad got $3.00 a pound for fancy and the low was $2.50 for com2.
yes, other countys can join the lewis county assoc.there new logo reflects that.

I have checked out the listings for auctions around here and so far haven't seen one thing to do with maple so far. Most auctions here seem to be for hobby farmers that got old.

He put an article in the Salmon River News a few weeks ago announcing his retirement and thanking all his customers for 50 years of business. I have tried to call him several times but no one ever answers. If anything I was hoping to buy some stuff off him. The auction might explain that one. Anybody here going?

Fred I am planning on going as well maybe I will see you there. If I do go I will have a red and tan Tony Stewart racing first win hat on so you can identify me. Everytime I go to one of these things I leave with nothing cause someone is a little richer than me:) Is there anything that you are interested in at the auction?

I hate auctions with rich people there. Went to one last year and could not believe the prices people would pay for things they could pay less for in a hardware store.

I would like some more buckets and spouts (cast iron type). However I refuse to pay more than 4 bucks for a used Wheeling style bucket. I will be the tall man looking over top of everyone. I will also have on a white Kubota cap that says "life is grand" on the bill. Auction can go a little crazy. You do need to know the price of things before you go.There will be more than enough antique dealers there and they are what ruins an auction for the working man.

I went to the auction today and found about a 100 Leader and Wheeling buckets that made their way home with me, but not covers. The price was right so it did not matter as I have extra covers. There was a nice 3X12 evaporator there and two other smaller ones. Used vac pumps, 3&4 cover filter cans, galv syrup barrels, tubing and new fitting. There was a good crowd and more than enough pickups to haul everything away. A few antiques of which my wife bought 2 buckets.
We left there and went to Burrville for some fresh cider and warm donuts and then home. The cider mill at Burrville used to be water power but it to has fallen into modern times as everything is electric now.
