Got a question..... How much support lib is needed for a 2x3 flat pan, 1/4, 1/2 3/4, or a full inch?

they jump around and move over time and then there is the bump factor so go with at least 1"

Okay Cananck here. By support do you meen the edges the pans sit on.
I am hopeing that a inch on the ends and maybe 3/4 on the sides.

BarrelBoiler also you want enough area for the insulation to sit on and that can be tricky if the lip is to small. You need strong steel in this area to keep the rig from warping. After all this is the spot the heat will be the hotest and you dont want things caving in or spreading out.

I am building my son a 24x30 arch and I am using 2x2x1/4 inch angle iron for the rails. I am then putting full size fire brick up the walls of the arch. I built a 2x6 arch about 10 years ago for myself when I got started and used 1/8 steel. It did not take the weight of the pans/sap or heat well. I ended up adding 1/4 inch angle to the rails.

i'm working with a oil tank and am going to use some 2.5 X 3/16 angle for the side rails. the orginal thought was to build a rectangle and set it over the sides of the tank to keep it from spreading and set the pan on top. during a dry fit of pieces that left a very small lip for the pan so the plan now is to do the same thing only weld the rectangle to the inside. it changes the firebricking plan some because with the orginal plan the brick layed up the sides with just a little gap where the steel held the pan up now the top brick hangs out about a 1/4 inch but is all tuck under the angle real nice and neat
maybe instead of using the outside of the angle iron to create a flat surface to set the pan on i should flip the rectangle over and use the inside surface to set the pan in have to think on that a bit
