Yes, I saw it running at there open house. It would work good, boiled hard. I dont know what quality the chips need to be?

the 4x14 has get numbers. they match my oil fired 6x14 with a steamaway. i was inpressed. enough to get a 35 ton grain silo to store pellets. but oil is still cheaper so i bought a 4x14 thunderbolt that gets the same numbers as the 4x14 pellet fired evap.

As Jeff said it is a very impressive evaporator, but it is more expensive to operate then a oil fired unit.

I burnt wood chips in my little preheater burner this spring and it gets hot but it also burns the chips pretty fast also. I imagine one would need a hopper feed for one which would increase the price a bunch to make it fireproof and insulated .

back in 1990 i looked into wood chip fired evaporation. went to swanton vt. and met up with a guy named lew baracus. he took me to an operation not far from there. an out building to house chips. a loader to handle chips. a forage wagon that self unloaded the chips onto a conveyer to feed a large hooper to feed the evaporator. it was a two man job to boil the sap.the chips have to be clean. no needles, leaves ect.i left there thinking oil was the way to go. truck pulls up and you got fuel. one man boil. no chip hauler, or fireman to put wood in and in front of the evaporator. and with an r/o and .4 to .5 gals of oil to gal of syrup. in my mind even a 4 dollars a gallon oil is the way to go to make syrup. i will say that i like the force 5 arch and if my sugar house was not hooked to my hay barn i would think differently about that.

They are touting this new Intens-o-fire II arch only needs firing every 30 minutes, so it appears it is more along the design of the Force 5 arch.

I wouldn't part with my wood chip arch, I made 4300 gallons of syrup on $800 of wood chips.
That is with 10 brix sap.
