I was out scrapping today. We are replacing the LAARS boiler at the pool in my community and was given the chance to take what I wanted. I stripped the pumps and 120ft of 1" copper finned tubing 1/8 thick plus the fins.
Pulled out the gas burner and noticed that the entire combustion chamber is lined with 24" X 24" X 1 1/2" light weight fire brick/tiles/panels. There were 14 of them and the panels had a overlap on the sides just like T11 siding. The boiler is 6 years old and the panels were in greaqt shape didnt fall apart or crumble. They would be great for lining a arch. If anyone is thinking of making their own arch and bricking it I would start out with the local boiler repair guy and bribe him with syrup for any leads on boilers that are being scrapped. They are made of a refractory type of meterial and would cut with a hand saw They would be easy to work with
