View Full Version : How to increase output of a 2X6 D&G

We have a 2x6 drop flue. The back flue pan is 4' and the front pan is 2'. The only thing that gains efficiency for us is a blower. I bet we get about 30-35 gallons per hour with our evaporator when we are really running it. We did around 375 taps last year - too much at our current output. Increasing evaporator size is not an option at this point - we want to be able to stay small (100 taps) if we get too busy to sugar.
How about the refactory cement? Would that help? Does D&G make airtight replacement doors? My budget is about $1500.
Thanks a bunch.

A bigger blower and an airtight front will help more than anything else. You could build an airtight front for $ 300 or less if you can find one to look out and can weld or cut it out and have someone to weld it up for you. You are welcome to come down sometime and see my evaporator.

Thanks, Brandon. I have admired your setup for some time and would not mind the trip to see it. I am hopping that D&G makes an airtight door kit that I can just bolt on.
Some one on here should know if D&G makes airtight doors.

If they don't, Leader will make you up one. I am telling you, there isn't much to one at all and if you saw mine, you could draw up the plans and take it to a local fab shop and get one made for 1/2 what the evaporator companies want.
PS I sent you a PM with the info you wanted on a steam hood.
