if you have a scoped rifle there is no problem, or you can call the game warden and see what he/she will do for you, if they don't well take it down and tell no one

Mntapper,
I had a 2 x 3 outside in a three sided enclosure, and had a near miss... he took down the bird feeders and tipped over some 5 gallon buckets that had used paper filters in them at one point... so he smelled the syrup... never messed with my pan... After that I had to put t a cover on my pan every night and rest the Bucket of my Kabota on some 2 x4s on top of the cover.. with just enough pressure to discourage him.. Never had another problem.. but i know Bear and they love a challenge!!
Certainly not a good time to shoot one for chewing some tubing, I'm a hunter but might be a Sow with some little ones.

maple is an agricultural crop, so i would think it would be legal to shoot a bear causing damage to such, i know here its legal to kill or trap an animal damaging livestock or crops. we had a bear try and eat one of our goats and the conservation officer said that if its threatening your livestock you are withing your right to shoot it

Same with honey producers. I would maybe have bear steaks and suasage and cover my losses. That or make a wildlife depradation claim.
