Has anyone ever built a homemade "Steamaway"'? I thought it would be cool to build something better than just a preheater for next year.(2010 season) I'm probably going to add forced draft and preheater/steamaway to my 3x10 evaporator. Thanks for any advice!

All I would need to do is see one and I could build it. I may have to go look at a friends.

Bradenfish- Pretty sure that 3% solution made one. You might want to ask him about it. I think it ended up working real good but I dont think it was a quick easy deal. I think they are pretty intricate but Im sure he can tell you all about it. Theron

Yaaaaa sometimes after you build something like this you find out the price of the manufactured one is actually a deal but non the less building something like this can be very rewarding no matter the time or cost of it.

Some time I would like to see a steamaway to figure out what it actually is. Any pictures or even a site address would help.

Dave,

Traders,
I know of a camp in Somerset County that built one, basically copied Leaders Steamaway. Needless to say Leader is Steaming and has threaten to sue if they sell their unit. So be careful Leader has a copyright on their Steamaway.

Leader would have a hard time finding me let alone sueing me. I can't really make out how it works from the pictures I am seeing. I would have to see one in real life to understand it most likely.

220 maple,
I hear you on the copyright thing.
Mine is an EEU (Evaporation Enhancement Unit).
Many different design features than the Steam-away.
Not only that but, it's mine and I don't sell them.
Thanks for the heads up though.
Basically a Steam-away is a SS box with a lot of junk in it, expensive junk that is!!!!!
