Though you've probably already seen it, I can offer this (http://picasaweb.google.com/pat.delaney/SugarShack200902#), the photo record of my shack going up. You might see something you like, get some ideas.

My shack is 12 x 16 and I didn't use any plans, (had no idea what I was getting into). My photobucket shows some of the build. If you know of some shacks in your area visit them first and you will get alot of good ideas.

Jim, what did it cost you to build - you know, the basic structure. Not all your add ons after :)

Jim, What kind of wood did you use on your shack? I too am getting ready to start my building in May. Just trying to get all of my bases covered first. We have a good supply of Ash here. Thinking of cutting them and taking to the mill. They are dying from root rot anyway so I thought we could get some use from them this way. What do you think?

I've got a 16x20 shack that's split down the middle giving a 16x10 shack with 16x10 woodshed at the same time.
Works quite well for us. I wouldn't go any smaller. I've got a 2x6 rig
We used rough cut lumber & a tin roof.

I've used ash for canoes it's a nice wood. Structurally sound for sure

A couple of things to consider:

are you going to bottle on site or in another location?
is the public going to visit?
how close are you to power, water etc?
plan it out on paper 1st

go here http://www.al-ki.com/tcad/download.php and download the LE (learning edition) it is a very easy to use cad software I had designed my shack with it but I lost the drawing when my last computer crashed.

I agree it's very easy to use CAD, I actually do it for a living drawing houses. I plan to draw up my sugar house in CAD, along with our barn...both of which we plan to build this summer... Ha! Don't see that happening!

Both my woodshed and main part of my sugarhouse are 12' x 16'. I built it to fit my 2x6, but added a 6' x 10' shed roof to accommodate the 3x10.

2x4 rafters 24" o.c., 2x4 studs about 36' O.C. with a 2x4 nailer for the vertical boards halfway up the wall.
