What can i expect for an evaporation rate from an old 4x12 king evaporator. back pan is a 4x6 english tin drop flue, and front pan is a 4x6 stainless. no forced draft, no pre-heater just the way it is.

Im buying one from a farmer and he says it did about 70-80 gph. to me it seems it should do better then that, thoughts?

The rule of thumb I have always heard is 2.5 gallons per square foot. a 4x12 is 48 sf and should do 120 gph. I have a 3x10 king with preheater and blower and do 115 gph.

My 3x10 (3x7 rasied flue pan w/ 3x3 syrup pan) evaporates between 90 - 100 GPH with NO blower and NO preheater.

I have a 4x12 "Lightning". Back pan is 4x8 so I have more flue space. Flues are also 9" deep (some are 7). When things are going smooth with good wood, I can easily do 125 gallons per hour without pushing things. Good dry wood and humping it can exceed 150. No preheater, no steamaway. Yours should do over 100 easily if properly fired.

My old 4' x 12' setup with a 4' x 8' flue pan with 5" flues and no hood the best I could do was 100 gal. per hr.

I have a 4x12 4x5 front pan and 4x7 flue pan 7 inch flues (they were Randys pans from Leader) I put a pre heater on it and bult a new arch. I burn about 14 gallons of oil an hr. and get about 150 gph of evaporation. Good Luck!!

my old leader drop flue 4 x12 with 4x7 flue and 4x5 front with a blower would do 180 per hour
