Just thought I would post a photo of our homemade evaporator.
Thanks to everyone on this sight. We were just going to use cinder blocks and 20 taps. Then we decided to build this evaporator and go with 50 taps but before we got the taps in we decided 75 taps. Were does it end! We are having so much fun. We figure we are boiling 10 to 12 gph. The pan has 2 dividers. We do have to figure out a better pre heat system has the copper around the stack doesn't get the sap hot enough fast enough.

i built one similar to what you have what i did for a preheater was run a short peice of copper tubing through the back of the arch (at the high end) before dumping into the pan. worked out well for me.
the evap looks good though, now you have to name it. lol
good luck

I really like how you incorporated the existing curved top of the original tank into your stack. Every other 275 tank conversion I've seen simply cut off the whole top. Do you have pics looking down on your pan?

looks great where did you get the pan? I plan on buying or building a new arch before next year.

Very cool looking, I wonder if I could figure out how to build one of those...

I don't have any pictures looking down on pan. I'll try to take one. The pan came from Roth Sugarbush in WI. They have someone that makes pans whatever size you specify. This pan is 26" x 46".

As for your pre heater I used a 50 foot roll of 3/8 and it got up to 200 or so.

where did you run the copper. mine is exactly like his picture using a blower in the box. can do 40 gals in five hours poking the wood to it.

I had tight coils aroung the stack right above the pan. I'll try to find a photo as I built one for inside the steam hood this year because I kept getting vapor lock.
