where i work we got a 5x14 force draft wood fired arch. we put up bout 65 cords of dry wood a year. due to low sugar content this year we r running out of wood so we r trying to burn green slabs. when we put them in and turn on the blowers the fire bout goes out to nothing. anyone ever had this problem. we r thinking the blowers might b plugged just enough so its not getting full air.

You are using up a lot of BTU's to get that green wood dry enough to burn.

Green wood doesn't work in an evaporator. That is my experience. You will end up with a fire box full of smoldering chunks and no flame. I have an air tight arch with forced draft and tried that last year. I had some pine that had been cut down for a while but not split. Well I thought I'd be able to burn it to keep going. Wrong. As Fred said it ends up using alot of btu's just to keep the wood burning, which in turn leaves none for heating the sap.
