im setting up a new bush of about a 1000 taps. i have been looking at ss tanks. but im in the excavation bussiness so i was wondering has anyone ever used a concrete sewer tank burried. if so what do u think r the pro's and con's of it.

would think the concrete would be too porous and a pain in the a$$ to clean it...

just my off the cuff thoughts...

I don't think there is anyway you could keep the bacteria out of it!! I do know people who have burried stainless tanks. Jim L.

The acid in the sap would leach out the concrete. We had concrete underground water tanks due to haveing artesian wells but we waterglassed the tanks before putting water in them.

A guy in Sugar hill had a 10,000 gallon concrete tank with some kind of a liner, but it was like a swimming pool where you could easily clean it.

What about burying a fibreglass sewage tank?

i do know a guy that used a poured concrete tank, about 2000 gal ,buried. i didnt like it . it was ackward and hard to clean.although buried tanks are nice to keep cool and dump in to from gathering tanks

I don't see why you couldn't try to get a pool liner made that would fit the tank or pour a tank to fit a standard liner

They bury plastic tanks (similar to the plastic sap tanks) for potable water systems at campgrounds all the time. But again, cleaning would be the problem.

I know of 2 - 6,000 gal. fiberglass tanks that were buried to store sap, but concrete? Tough to clean.

another question about burying...I would think that the ground tempature would work against you...in the ground it is a constant 54ish deg. I wouldn't want my sap sitting in that very long. above ground it may get hotter during the day, but cools off at night...

Concrete would definitely give the sap an off flavour unless it was lined. A SS or poly tank would be fine underground other that how much of a pain it would be to clean it!
