Help ! I'm new at this R.O. stuff I bought a Filmtec XLE-4040 membrane and have not used it yet was wondering if someone has experience with this membrane like how much premeate are you getting and at what pressure ???? Should I have bought the NF90-4040?? and how much permeate flow are you getting at what pressure?
Thanks
Jon

I tried a xle this year and the flow rates are alot slower than the nf270 I replaced and probably slower than the nf 90 however one thing i can say is it is not passing ANYTHING....the permeate is crystal clear with out any taste or oder. As far as actual flows it depends on how high your concentrating to.

I have been using an XLE 4040 membrane this year and when it is clean I crank the concentrate flow way out to 4gpm and I can get 2.5gpm of permeate flow for a while at 300psi. After a couple of hours it will begin to slow down and with a flush and rinse at 4 hours I can get the permeate flow back up to 2.0gpm but it will decrease to 1.0gpm within 3 hours from there.

I have found that the XLE performs as well at 200psi as my NF90 4040 did at 500psi. It doesn't pass any sugar where the NF90 would pass a trace. Filmtec recommends a 100psi working pressure for the XLE but says the max pressure is 600psi.

I use two of the membranes with my ro. I run permeate at 2.5/min till the sugar reaches 6% then it drops to 2 gal/ min permeate. I've run 30,000 gals of sap through them and have not passed sugar or gone below 2 gal/ min permeate.

I'm wondering what the normal percentage of concentrate and permeate are , should it be 2 concentrate to one Premeate to start with untill the premeate slows down???
Thanks
