buy some pan acid and an inner-flue flue brush from your local maple supplier.
Follow the directions for mixing and start a slow fire in the evaporator. The nitre will peel right off in 20-30 minutes like magic.
For, the front pan takes more elbow grease and some scotch-brite pads.

Personally I use a gallon of white vinegar to 5 gallons of water in the flue pan. Let it simmer with a small fire and brush clean then rinse good. I am not paying 20 to 30 bucks for a flue brush. Not that I am cheap but the fact that you can buy a semi stiff bristle brush they sell in hardware stores that are about 2 feet long with a good foot of a round brush on them that fit in the flue perfectly. They are lint dryer brushes and work perfectly in my opinion. I just bend a loop in the wire at the bottom so it doesn't scratch up the flues. Oh yeah did I mention they are only six bucks. I use one for the inside and one for the fireside.
