I have found a used 2x4 pan that I believe is english tin. The pan is a bit rusty and I wasnt sure if it is worth buying and trying to clean up. The rust isn't major, but the whole pan is somewhat brown with rust. If so, anyone have luck with any special method of cleaning.

Would it be better to stay away from the pan since it's rusty.

Thanks
Mike

Are you sure it is rust and not 'sugar sand' deposits on the tin?

I would avoid any truly rusting pan. The tinning is gone from the pan if it is rusting and will produce off flavored syrup.

However, I had an old tin pan that had the discoloring and I avoided agressing cleaning for fear of removing the tinning. I did use chemical cleaning but avoided agressive scrubbing, etc.
