Cone Filter Question

I used a wool cone filter and in the directions it states to soak the filter in boiling sap just before filtering syrup. I did this and the syrup came out crystal clear, but it watered down the syrup and I had to reboil and filter as a result. Any ideas?

never heard of doing that, i dont i just use a dry filter, maybe they wanted you to soak it in sap let it dry and then filter? i dont know but it will water your syrup down every time if you do it like that
